Awarding-winning writer to kick-start Illawarra’s aspiring poets

It’s surprising how many of us have been moved to write a poem, whether to mark an important event in our lives – a marriage, a birth, or a loss – or just to play with words.

Start Writing Poetry with award-winning poet Christine Paice is an introductory workshop that will give people who are new to poetry a chance to learn more about this absorbing and endlessly engaging form of creative writing. Whether you have a bundle of verse that you’ve never shown anyone, or an idea that has never quite made it onto the page, this workshop will help you to take your writing further. Christine Paice was the winner of the prestigious Josephine Ulrick Poetry Prize in 2009. She is the author of Mad Oaks and Staring at the Aral Sea, and has had work included in Black Inc’s Best Australian Poetry series. Her characteristic warmth and sense of humour, and her experience as a poet and a teacher of creative writing promise to make this workshop a fun and worthwhile experience.

This subsidised workshop will be held in the Tom Thumb Room at the Wollongong Library on Saturday 13 March 2010 at the low cost of $45 for SCWC members and $85 for non-members.

The workshops is presented by the South Coast Writers Centre and supported by Arts NSW and Wollongong City Council.
