The Shoalhaven Branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, Shoalhaven Arts Board and Bundanon Trust have announced the Shoalhaven Literary Award for 2014 is now open. This year the award is for poetry and the judge is highly respected writer and poet, Les Wicks.
Over the last 35 years Les has performed at festivals, schools, prisons, etc. His performances are passionate and inspiring and he has published works in over 300 different magazines, anthologies and newspapers across 18 countries in 10 languages.
He also conducts workshops around Australia and runs Meuse Press, which focuses on poetry outreach projects such as poetry on buses and poetry published on the surface of a river. And who can forget that Les managed to get poetry published in a major Sydney newspaper!
His 11th book of poetry is Sea of Heartbreak (Unexpected Resilience) published by Puncher & Wattmann in 2013.
The prizes on offer are:
1st: $1000 together with a two-week artist residency at Arthur Boyd’s Bundanon on the Shoalhaven River.
2nd: $300
3rd: $100
Plus $200 Encouragement Award for winning entry from a Shoalhaven resident.
The competition closes on Friday 30 May 2014 and winners will be notified after Saturday 20 September 2014
